South Africa 128 for 7 (Smith 33, Butler 2-13) beat New Zealand 127 for 5 (McCullum 57, van der Merwe 2-14) by one run

Well what can i say more. It was New Zealand all the way through until they got suffocated by van der Merwe. It was van der Merwe who pulled off an improbable victory for South Africa. In his 4 overs he conceded a mere 14 runs and importantly picked up wicket of the key men McCulum and Taylor. This victory meant South Africa became the group D topper. Apart from the winning boost, this match will add no value to South Africa to the next round since there is not point carrying forward system. All teams will start the next round fresh with 0 points on board. With this victory South Africa has sent a strong message, which is, we can bowl/field well even if we fail to bat well.
